Calling out to all the green thumbs of the world! We all know that there's nothing quite like the satisfaction of a perfect lawn. At Ferris, we believe in helping you keep your grass green and your thumbs intact, so let’s talk about some key safety tips to ensure your lawn care routine is as smooth as freshly cut grass.

DRESS THE PART: LAWN CARE FASHION DO'S AND DON'TS

DO:

Sturdy Shoes: Your flip-flops might be perfect for the beach, but when it comes to mowing the lawn, opt for a pair of sturdy, closed-toe shoes to protect your feet from debris and prevent possible injuries.

Gloves: Gloves aren’t just for looking like a pro, they also protect your hands from potential blistering and cuts.

Protective Eyewear: Safety glasses or even sunglasses for a “cooler” style shield your eyes from flying debris.

DON'T:

Loose Clothing: Flowing garments can get caught in machinery faster than you can even think. Keep it fitted.

Jewelry: We know people love the bling, but leave things like bracelets and necklaces back home as they can easily get snagged on equipment.

Bare Feet: Save this for the beach, and always protect your feet from flying debris or other sharp objects on the machine or in the yard.

EQUIPMENT ETIQUETTE: BECOME THE MOWING MASTER

DO:

Get Familiar With the Manual: We know operators manuals aren’t necessarily thrilling, however they’re full of useful information on how to properly and safely operate your specific mower. Look at it as the secret code to becoming a lawn whisperer.

Check Before You Mow: Give your lawn a quick look over before every use. Check for toys, sticks, rocks, and other objects that could potentially become high-speed projectiles.

Fuel Up Properly: Always refuel your mower when it is turned off and cooled down to prevent any overheating or damage.

DON'T:

Mow Wet Grass: Wet grass is slippery grass. Mowing when the lawn is dry gives you better traction and a clearer cut, while also preventing clumping within your mower.

Leave Mower Unattended: Even if you need a quick break to grab a cold drink or whatever it may be, turn off your machine. Unattended mowers and curiosity (kids, pets, etc.) don’t mix well.

Disable Safety Features: Those features are there for a reason. Don’t bypass them as they are there to help prevent accidents and protect you and others.

COMMON SENSE: THE BEST TOOL IN YOUR SHED

DO:

Hydrate: Lawn care is a workout, especially on a hot summer day. Keep a water bottle handy to prevent dehydration while mowing.

Take Breaks: Listen to your body. It’s better to take an extra few minutes to collect yourself than to push too hard and make a mistake.

Clear the Area: Make sure kids, pets, and distractions are out of harm's way. Think of it as creating a “ mow zone”.

DON'T:

Rush: Good lawn care takes time. Rushing can lead to mistakes, and nobody wants a patchy lawn.

Ignore Maintenance: A well-maintained mower is a safe mower. Keep blades sharp, check oil levels, and give your equipment the TLC it deserves.

Mow on Steep Slopes: If your lawn has steep areas, mow across the slope, not up and down. This reduces the risk of it tipping over.
